Dr. Matthew Tiessen is a SSHRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Infoscape Research Lab in the Faculty of Communication and Design at Ryerson University. He teaches and publishes in the area of technology studies, digital culture, contemporary theory, and visual culture.

Dr. Tiessen is currently under contract to write a book on "apps," affect, and gamification with U of Toronto Press and his research is featured in academic journals and anthologies such as: Theory, Culture & Society; Cultural Studies<=>Critical Methodologies, TOPIA: Canadian Journal of Cultural Studies, Volume; CTheory; Rhizomes: Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledge; Surveillance & Society; Space and Culture; Pli: The Warwick Journal of Philosophy; Revisiting Normativity with Deleuze (2012, Bloomsbury); and Ecologies of Affect: Placing Nostalgia, Desire, and Hope (2010, Wilfrid Laurier University Press).
